The Bitfilm Festival awards prizes in five categories. The winner awaits prize money total of 45,000 Euro, donated by the Authority for Economy and Labour of Hamburg.

They can also take home our "Golden Shark" and put in on their shelf. It was designed by cartoonist Uly Arndt and made into a sculpture by artist Saskia Ruth.





The categories of the competition are:

Digital Features:
This category is dedicated to innovative full-length films who use digital technologies such as 3D-animations or Digital Compositing as main feature. The prize money of 30,000 Euros is earmarked for realising productions in Hamburg, supported by local companies.

Bit Shorts:
In our three Bit Shorts programmes run short films and music videos that employ digital technology in a highly creative and fresh way. Prize money is 5,000 Euros, which also are supposed to be invested in local productions in Hamburg.

Flash:
The Bitfilm Flash Award was established in 2000 and is the oldest and biggest contest of its kind in Germany. There are 2,500 Euros each for the best linear and the best interactive film.

Machinima:
These films are produced with so called Game Engines, which fare the base of modern Computer games. The Machinima award, including prize money of 2,500 Euros, is the first European film award of its kind.

Micromovies:
The images and narrative technique are so concise and short that they work well on the small displays of mobile phones or PDAs. 2,500 Euros are waiting for the winner of this category.
